Surgery – The surgery facility is well equipped for all general surgery and orthopedic surgery, and has been augmented with the addition of an excellent laser surgical unit seven years ago. Surgery procedures meets or exceeds AAHA standards, and is done with the utmost concern for the patients well being. Careful monitoring is primary to each patient. Pulse oximetry, and other monitoring equipment augment the watchful attention given each pet.
Dentistry – Dental health is extremely important to pets. Periodontal disease is known to be a source of many kidney and heart problems. Pets need regular dental cleanings and treatment to minimize or prevent advancing periodontal disease. Tallmadge Animal Hospital has an excellent dental facility for both general dentistry and endodontic procedures. The use of digital dental X-Rays is a great asset for radiographing pets’ teeth to properly evaluate the extent of disease and plan for the most appropriate treatment. Digital radiographs produce excellent images in much less time, and better allows for root canal procedures. Root canals are performed using a “Light Speed” endodontic system. Besides regular cleanings, pets need home dental care to help slow or prevent advancing periodontal disease and tooth loss. Cats are at particular risk for odontoclastic resorptive lesions (neck lesions) that destroy the tooth at the gum line or the roots. Cats are routinely x-rayed during dental procedures.
Medical and Diagnostics – Endoscopy is an excellent diagnostic and surgical tool for upper and lower GI studies, Cystoscopy of the urinary bladder, bronchoscopy and rhinoscopy for the respiratory system, laproscopic surgical procedures, and arthoroscopic procedures. We have a compliment of 4 scopes for these procedures.
Imaging – X-Rays and contrast radiology are important diagnostic tools. We use both a standard x-ray machine and a dental specific x-ray machine. The addition of a new Siemens G50 color Doppler ultrasound unit greatly compliments and enhances the imaging of tissues, heart and abdominal organs.
Preventative Medicine and Wellness – The prevention of disease and enhancement of healthy pets is the primary goal in good medicine. Physical exams, vaccinations, parasite prevention, nutritional, and behavioral issues are part of that program.
Laboratory testing is an important tool in diagnosing beyond the physical examination. Routine testing for preventative and early diagnosis is employed for heartworm and intestinal parasites. Blood profiles and specialized test are commonly used in diagnostic procedures.
